2010 Schedule Information

Parents,
I can't believe it’s 2010! So much is different today than when we as parents grew up. Better medicine, cars, comforts. There are also lots of things that make our lives much more challenging as Christians. The students we are raising have more temptation in their lives than any of us could have imagined even ten years ago. This means we must fight passionately to see teenagers become committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 reads, "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children." As a church, we have to constantly search for the best way to carry out this mandate from the Lord, as we partner with you. We feel certain that a change is necessary in our student ministry weekly schedule. Our prayer is that this change will enable us to most effectively reach and disciple students for Christ, and most efficiently utilize the staff, resources and facility the Lord has so graciously provided us, as we move forward in 2010.

Senior High is returning to our old schedule of house groups meeting on Sunday afternoons, beginning February 21^st with a slight time change to 12:45-2:30pm for both junior and senior high house groups. We are also focusing on making our Wednesday night program better than ever, returning to our original schedule of an hour of social time in the Rock from 7-8pm, followed by an hour of worship and biblical teaching from 8-9pm. This change is due, in large part, to our core students’ desire to have Wednesday nights return to a high energy, nonthreatening, life-changing environment, conducive to bringing their Christian and non-Christian friends.

In addition to the Sunday afternoon House Group bible study option, we will also offer a separate girls and boys bible study on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm at The Rock, prior to our program. These Wednesday night groups will follow the same Student Life Bible Study curriculum as Sunday House Groups. Students are, of course, free to attend whichever Sunday or Wednesday option they prefer. We are excited to offer 8 weeks of Discipleship Classes on Systematic Theology at 9am on Sunday mornings as well. We want kids to understand biblical doctrines such as Salvation, End Times, Angels and Demons, the Nature of God and Jesus Christ. We will be teaching a series on Sunday mornings covering Old Testament Characters, followed by 10 Weeks from the Gospel of Mark on the life of Jesus. So we are anticipating the Lord doing a mighty work in students’ lives this year, and would covet your daily prayers and support towards that end. (So please reply to this email, and let me know if you would be interested in being included on our prayer support team, or serving at either our Sunday or Wednesday programs.)

Below are key highlights of the 2010 schedule; however, as always, you can find complete details at rockdc.com. Each student will be provided with a new Winter/Spring calendar this week; however, please feel free to give us a call at the office if you need further clarity. Will we also have a Parent Meeting Wednesday, January 27^th at 7pm and Sunday, February 7th at noon in The Rock in order to address any additional questions you might have.
